Sustainability
The National Sustainability Benchmark for the Wine Sector, developed by VINIPORTUGAL, represents a commitment by national producers to sustainable production. Based on audits carried out by accredited entities, it assesses the sustainable management of organizations through 86 indicators, spread across the environmental, social and economic domains. This benchmark stands out for its comprehensiveness, transparency and credibility, guaranteeing the quality and reliability of Portuguese wines in international markets.
According to José Lobo Vasconcelos, owner of Quinta do Casal Branco, this recognition reflects the estate's commitment to the future: “Our mission is to leave a legacy, which is why we have taken the lead in sustainability. We want to continue to be a benchmark in the production of quality wines. The future depends on us and the actions we take today.”“
A number of innovative strategies have been implemented which reflect our commitment to sustainability. The practices adopted include:
Reuse of agricultural by-products: Composting of stalks, pruning wood and leaves, used as organic fertilizer;
Promoting biodiversity: Creating shelters in the vineyard and encouraging nesting conditions;
Use of renewable energy sources;
Efficient management of water resources;
Reducing the carbon footprint: Use of lighter bottles with a higher percentage of recycled glass;
Regional cultural promotion: Organization of events such as the Entre Quintas Music Festival.
